What is the Mentorship + Wellness Program?

Our Mission:

The mission of the Mentorship + Resiliency Program is to develop well-being, community, and resilience within current Medical School students.

Evidence-Based Program

Our program uses evidence-based programs that have been associated with developing resilience, creating community, and promoting psychological well-being. Why make this program evidence-based? The short answer: we want to know it works.

There have been over 200 randomized control trials promoting these types of effects. Over the course of the first year, medical school students will be given multiple, and shoft psychological interventions including:

  • Gratitude Interventions (Three Good Things/Gratitude Letters)

  • Expressive Writing to Heal (Expressive Writing about Trauma)

  • Best Personal Self (Imaging you at your best)

  • Mindfulness Meditation

Why focus on Medical School Students?

Because medical school students and physicians are in a crisis. We sometimes get thrown into positions or places that are stressful, overwhelming, and anxiety-provoking. To add on to that, we sometimes do not have the skills to limit these effects psychologically. This program hopes to fight that. These effects can carry over to the way medical students interact with patients in the future as well as with colleagues whom they would work with to care for a patient. More importantly, the rates of suicide among medical school students is 14%, which is almost double the rate within the general population. By joining this organization, you are making a commitment to help fight against this statistic and provide the support the medical school need.

The Future:

The goal for this program is to extend to medical schools across the United States. If you would like to start this program at your medical school, we have developed a Step by Step Program to implement these interventions at your school. Our goal is to make this program widely accessible, free, and customizeable to any medical school. Please contact Robert Kim at downstatementor@gmail.com if you would like more information about this process.
